Summary
Mr. Bolton is an associate of Earth Systems. He has more than 25 years experience as an earth and environmental scientist and has successfully designed and implemented environmental management strategies to minimise or eliminate operational impacts in settings ranging from forests and tundra of northern Europe and Russia, rainforests of West Africa and PNG, to fragile desert environments of Mongolia and Australia. In addition to specialist technical skills in environmental science, he has extensive experience in interdisciplinary environmental assessments and project management.

Mr. Bolton has worked on environmental management projects in Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Namibia, Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Turkey, France, Bulgaria, Sweden, U.K., Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Australia, Indonesia, U.S.A., and most recently, Papua New Guinea. He has lived and worked in U.S.A., Ghana, U.K., Australia, Mongolia, and Papua New Guinea.

Fields of Special Competence

Mr. Bolton’s experience in environmental project management includes involvement in the preparation of site-specific environmental management plans and environmental impact assessments, environmental and safety auditing of mining and exploration sites, preparation of legislative compliance manuals for operations in a number of countries, and the preparation and delivery of material used in developing workforce environmental awareness. He also has considerable experience and expertise in the analysis and review of environmental data and its presentation to Company Boards, senior management, business units, shareholders, customers, suppliers, government agencies, and other stakeholders such as local communities, NGO’s and the media. He has special competence in environmental geoscience and geochemistry; management of acid drainage; sedimentology and economic geology, environmental decision-making techniques, and environmental management systems.


Representative Experience

Mr. Bolton’s recent roles and projects include:

  • Project manager and specialist advisor for project designed to assess impact of mining on the geomorphology, sediment geochemistry and water quality of the Fly River delta, Papua New Guinea.
  • Project manager and specialist advisor for project to evaluate the impact of mining, and particualrly the risk of acid generation and metal leaching on the geochemistry and water quality of the Fly River basin, Papua New Guinea.
  • Project manager and specialist advisor for a project to evaluate Ok Tedi mine waste tailings ARD mitigation options.
  • Project manager for projects to develop ARD and water quality monitoring program as part of Ok Tedi mine closure plan.
