Azain Raban B. Sc.
Climate Change Consultant

Summary
Azain Raban has joined Earth Systems as a Climate Change Consultant, with significant international experience in climate change policy, carbon accounting and Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). Azain has a background in natural sciences, climatology and environmental policy. He is currently working towards a Master of Environment.

Azain has worked with international agencies and a range of communities in Asia. He has also assisted governments, NGO’s and private sector agencies to implement Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs), including the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Azain is currently working with Earth Systems to identify CDM opportunities in both the public and private sectors in Southeast Asia. Once developed, these projects will promote investment in efficient clean energy technologies and contribute towards sustainable development in Southeast Asia.

• Preparing a climate change / carbon credit strategy paper to identify potential CDM projects in the hydropower industry in Lao PDR.
• Developing a marketing strategy for Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) Marketing Strategy for Earth Systems Australia.
• Volunteering for the “Engineering for a Better World” Conference hosted by Engineers without Borders (EWB), Australia.
• Presented at the Asia Regional Workshop on “Adaptation to Climate Change: Bridging Research and Policy” in Kathmandu, Nepal, organised by IGES, Japan (3-4 March 2004).
• Participated in the Introductory Seminar on Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) in Kathmandu, Nepal, organised by IGES, Japan (5 March 2004).
